One unique feature I found with the gear you get from digging up Captain Blade’s stash is that each weapon or mod has a bonus, but then has some sort of ‘consequence’. These stashes tell the tale of who Captain Blade really was, how his reputation was not accurate to his character, and along with getting some money and items, you also get a piece of Captain Blade’s gear with each treasure stash you find. Per every new region visited, there will be a message in a bottle that points to one of Captain Blade’s stashes. The only exception to this, are the messages in bottles scattered across the DLC map. The side-quests are just fetch quests as per usual. Raid bosses produce what is known as “Seraph Crystals”, and these crystals can be used for special upgrades. Difficulty is determined by party size (the campaign itself at the hardest gets to level 30), and there are extra quests (raid bosses) that do require multiple people to face if you want to go the extra mile once you have beaten the DLC. You still have your 4 weapons to swap between, there are no new powers or anything else to worry about.

The gameplay is no different than the main campaign of the game. But this DLC introduces new enemies, new areas, a new vehicle, and new characters while bringing in some familiar faces as well. There are still bounty boards, side-quests, and other things to do. While she makes it known that she will probably stab you in the back once all is said and done, for the time being, you are to go out and search for what compass pieces remain. There are four pieces total before the compass can be used and the treasure is revealed. To seal the deal, she lets you in on the fact that she already owns one piece of the compass and knows where another piece is located. She understands that you are also looking for the legendary treasure and she proposes that the two of you work together since she also wants the treasure. While doing some quests for him, you are then summoned by the great Captain Scarlett. He is so lonely that the people who died in Oasis, he stuffed their bodies, and set up speakers with recorded tapes to give them all different personalities. Shade is a resident of Oasis and the only one there that did not die of thirst. You are asked by a mysterious man to take care of these menaces, and once you kill them all, the man introduces himself as Shade. Eventually you are thrown into the Town of “Oasis” which is under attack of Pirates. The story recounts of how several Pirates searched far and wide for this treasure, but none ever succeeded. This DLC takes place on a new map as the Vault Hunters go out in search of Captain Blade’s Treasure of the Lost Sands- a legendary bounty which was hidden by a magical compass and guarded by a great beast. …with that being said, let me welcome you to just one of the many side-campaigns that Borderlands 2 has to offer: Captain Scarlett & her Pirate’s Booty. So any differing opinions being shared here will be pointed out as either my old view or my recent opinion. I had also completed the first Borderlands and all its DLC. The second time I played solo, I was still a Mechromancer (level 36) but had finished the main campaign and had some pretty good weapons and upgrades. I had also never played Borderlands before this. Because we jumped into the DLC without finishing the main campaign, we were really low-leveled and had to work a little harder to complete missions and defeat enemies. The first time I played through the DLC, I made a Mechromancer and my wife was in my team playing as a Psycho (these classes are add-ons).

As a shooter-looter, Borderlands is something special, Borderlands 2 far-surpassed the first game (in my opinion), and it is a series I found myself quite addicted to in recent years.īur first, a quick note about the characters… This was also back when anything FPS (first person shooter) was much too intimidating for me, and to this day, it’s still not my favorite genre…but Borderlands is something different. It was one of those games that groups of friends would play together and have the greatest conversations about, so, when you found out you were playing by yourself…it was just, less fulfilling. But, not only did I write the review after beating the DLC the first time with my wife, I just recently ran through the DLC again solo in 2020, and decided that this old review could really use some TLC.īorderlands is one of those games that I had always wanted to play, but could never get myself to do it alone. At that point in time, I had never written anything for DLC content at all, so it was a new experience altogether. Back when I first wrote this DLC review, it was an odd formula for me since I had not even beaten the main campaign of Borderlands 2 yet.
